Quiz Stats


The quiz statistics page is being redesigned to provide more consumable and actionable information about student performance.  (And it will also be a lot more beautiful!)

Differentiated Assignments


Instructors will have the flexibility to differentiate assignments between sections and select which sections are required to complete specific tasks.

Updated Open Standards


As part of our ongoing support for open standards that make educational applications, content, and data “plug and play,” Canvas will be updated to the IMS Global CC 1.3 and QTI 2 standards.

Groups Updates


Users will have a new less-clicky way to navigate to course groups.  Instructors will have a way to assign a student group leader who will be able to manage some administrative groups tasks.

Mobile Push Notifications


The mobile apps are being plugged into Canvas’ robust notifications infrastructure. Canvas users will receive immediate notifications of items that are pushed directly to their devices.

Files Update


For an improved file management experience, files is being redesigned to add more sortable metadata columns and a search box that will make it easier to find and manage files.

K12 SIS Integration


Admins will be able to create tight integrations with major K12 student information systems to provide a more seamless experience with Canvas.

Quiz API


The Quiz API will be a comprehensive and robust API for the Quiz tool in Canvas and will allow creation, update, inquiry, and deletion of quiz-related content.

Box LTI


Institutions who utilize Box for file management and sharing will be able to use the Box LTI tool with Canvas features such as modules, pages, assignment submissions, and course navigation. This tool is available via the Canvas App Center. For more details check out the app listing on EduAppCenter.com.

Quiz Regrade Gradebook History

Instructors can view scores for regraded quizzes in the Gradebook history. This feature allows instructors to view all grading events in the same location and see historical data for any regraded quizzes. The Gradebook history shows how many changes were made and the before and after quiz scores.

Canvas (iPhone, iPad): Favorites and Reminders

Users can modify course favorites directly in the app. Also, students can set reminders for specific assignments so they don’t forget to turn them in!

Gradebook: Movable Total Column

Instructors can move the Total column to the front of the Gradebook to quickly see an overview of student progress in the course. This option is located in the Total Column drop-down menu and is persistent according to browser. The Total Column can be moved back to the end of the Gradebook at any time.

Peer Review Indicators

When an instructor assigns a peer review to a graded discussion, the Discussions Index Page displays the peer review icon next to the name of the graded discussion. The Global Dashboard and Course Dashboard sidebars will also show this indication if the assigned student has posted a discussion. This notification icon appears in both instructor and student views

Canvas Polls (Android): Timers, Drafts, and Improved Flow

Quiz Results Restrictions

Instructors can select a new quiz option that lets students view the quiz results only once after each attempt. Instructors can use the Moderate Quiz feature to grant individual students additional views to their quiz results.

Learning Mastery Individual View

The Individual View of the Learning Mastery Gradebook  allows instructors to assess one student and one outcome at a time. Fully accessible to screen readers, this Gradebook view allows instructors to sort by section and outcome and contains all the same settings that are available in the Learning Mastery Gradebook Grid View.

IOS GROUPS, MULTI-USER SUPPORT, DROPBOX INTEGRATION

Canvas users will be able to participate in Canvas Groups within the iPhone app and have access to Discussions, Pages, and Files. The app allows users to save multiple logins on the device and jump between them easily. Dropbox can be used from within the app to submit files to assignments.

Grade Change Logging

Account admins can view information about a grade change for their account without having to access the API or grade history page (other admin roles such as sub-account admins require permission to access this feature). This feature helps answer questions that may exist about a specific grade history, including the person who was doing the grading.

Global Announcements by Role

Admins can create global announcements for specific roles. This feature separates announcements between user groups and reaches a more targeted audience—students don’t have to see all those surveys intended for instructors.

Gradebook Notes

This feature creates a new column in the gradebook giving instructors the flexibility to record non-grade based information about a student.

Hide Turnitin Score

When creating a new assignment with Turnitin, instructors can choose that students never see their Turnitin score and originality report. To use this feature, enable Turnitin submissions then click the Advanced Turnitin Settings link. In the drop-down menu, select the Never option.

Feature Options

When instructors allow students to see their quiz responses, they also have the option to let students see the correct answers, create a date range in the Show/Hide date fields, or display the answers indefinitely by not entering a Hide date.
